VSI Announces VSI LIVE TV

VSI continues to provide leading edge services and technology for the Elite Student - Athlete. VSI now provides Internet Video services which have become the defacto standard for high impact presentation to coaches.

First it was VHS tape then DVD's and now it is Online TV. The coaches have hundreds of DVDs on their desk - make your skills be viewed over the internet with crisp three to five minutes of streaming video. No longer are you sending via snail mail a DVD which probably will not be watched. Now over coffee a coach can get instant access to your "personal marketing reel". Very seldom does one coach make the final decision to add you to the roster - getting other coaches involved is as simple as forwarding your email with a link to your "personal marketing reel"

If you want to be seen and recruited go to VSI LIVE TV and fill out the electronic form requesting additional information - no more phone tag get on top of your college sports plans NOW.

"Individual Consulting and Mentoring Program "

This is the program that differentiates VSI from any of the recruiting companies out there. We are not a recruiting service.

We make sure that we are not associated with them. We believe that you can NOT completely "automate" a child's college search. Meaning, recruiting services do a "blind blast" of faxes and emails to college coaches trying to see if anyone out there is interested. VSI has developed a program that focuses on the individual and their families’ needs.

We put an individual plan together that encompasses that child’s needs and the

family’s needs. This way we can “maximize” the college search based on just what is important. That is how VSI works with you…”one kid at a time”…We teach the student-athlete how to properly search for the right schools while advising and teaching the student-athlete how to self-recruit themselves to coaches while using athletics as a

tool.

It's really teaching "life skills" that they will be able to draw on during and after college when he or she is looking for their first job/career. Please contact us for rates.

We offer one free College Search Check-up for no charge!!

Where are you today in your college search? What is important to you in finding a college?

College reputation – The size of the school – The cost of college – Level of play – Location of the school - etc.

College Essay and Application Tutoring and Seminars

Varsity Student Institute “VSI” is excited to announce our new partnership with Ronna Sarvas Weltman and Karen Roper.

Scott Brayton, Founder of Varsity Student Institute (VSI) says, “We are very excited to offer this service to our clients.  The essay and the short answer component of college applications are becoming increasingly important in the admission process. Ronna

and Karen bring talent, experience, and enthusiasm to helping students conquer their anxiety and move past procrastination to craft strong and effective essays.

Ronna Sarvas Weltman has been a part-time freelance writer since 1989, when her first son was born and, she claims, she couldn’t figure out how to get to work on time and still get her son fed and bathed.  She uses her sense of humor and enthusiasm

for helping adolescents identify their hopes, dreams, strengths and ambitions to help them write college admissions essays that are organized, sensible and authentic. She doesn’t mind kids e-mailing her at all hours for help with their essays since she loves collaborating with them and can’t believe she sometimes gets to work in her pajamas. She is an active schools and community volunteer who has served as a trustee on education and social welfare organizations’ boards of directors, and has helped develop several successful public school programs including College Corps, a college mentoring program she co-founded with Karen Roper. She has written several education publications, including a College Admissions Guidebook for Bellevue School District.

Karen Roper brings a journalism degree and two decades of marketing experience to coaching college essay writing. Using well-honed interviewing skills, she help students identify the unique qualities that differentiate them from all other students.  In an iterative process, she helps them creatively communicate these features and develop noteworthy responses to standard prompts. Karen received her BS in technical journalism from Oregon State University and an MBA from University of Washington.

She has reported for daily newspapers, written and published magazine articles, worked in professional services marketing for 16 years, and won numerous writing and publications awards throughout her career.  Her involvement with education over the past 7 years has included tutoring, mentoring, and co-founding the College Corps program to help high school juniors and seniors with their college search process and essays.

Pricing Structure

Students meet with Ronna or Karen for an initial one-hour meeting to identify essay topics and plan an essay structure, and then continue working with them through successive edits, via email and/or in person. Families are billed for actual time spent helping the students at the rate of $125 an hour. We will bill in increments of ten minutes or $20 per every ten minutes.

College Selection and Recruiting Process Seminar

(VSI Additional Services)

College Selection and Recruiting Process Seminars were developed to inform the maturing youth sports market the realities of what it will take to conduct an accurate college search. The seminars are conducted by sports professionals and educators who show the student-athletes, their parents and coaches what is the right way to go about their college search. We talk about how to effectively design a self-recruitment program that can be implemented tracked for progress. We teach you how to identify college and university programs that fit the student’s academic accomplishments, athletic accomplishments and other variables to help “Remove the Mysteries”. The audience learns why being “Proactive, Persistent and Prepared” is so vital to finding the right school(s) for the right reason(s).

Team Coaching/Advising

(VSI Additional Services)

VSI has developed this program for teams or clubs that want to learn how the “self recruiting process” works and be taught the nuances involved in the college recruiting and selection process. We will give the team representative unlimited access to our staff and they can work with the team or club in the manner that best suits them.

Financial Aid for College

(Additional service offered)

Paula Bishop, CPA is a Certified College Planning Specialist and works with VSI in the area of financial aid for college.  Paula is an expert in the details of the financial aid process, and meets with families to determine if they are eligible for financial aid, and estimates the amount of financial aid they most likely will receive from their student’s colleges of interest.

Paula works with parents to complete the necessary financial aid forms (FAFSA and CSS Profile form).  Paula reviews the family’s finances and tax returns, and identifies areas that either help or detract from financial aid eligibility.  If the family does not qualify for need based aid, alternatives solutions are addressed.

Varsity Student Institute’s goal is to match the college that your student will attend to your student’s academic goals and personal interests, and not allow your family’s finances to determine the choice of school to attend.   Paula can be reached at paulabishop@qwest.net or 425-646-4535. Detailed information can be found at www.paulabishop.com

True Directions

(Additional service offered)

True Directions is a career guidance center offering services to students, adults, and individuals seeking assistance in pursuit of the "right" career.  In particular students are often faced with the question; what major? what career?  what college?.

80% of entering freshmen have no idea as to what major to pursue.

37% never finish college

37% take an average of 5-6 years to finish college. (Biggest reason is not knowing major or switching major)

Each additional year can cost anywhere from 15-30 thousand dollars.

Worse yet is the student that graduates with a degree that can't launch them in to a career.

True Directions offers a six step process that assists the student with these decisions whereby we identify best careers to pursue, best college major, and best schools that offer these choices.

VSI referrals are offered this service for a fee of $299
